Ricky started the first band in high school in St. Louis, Missouri. The band had excellent musicians and showed a great deal of promise. However, everything ended when he decided to attend college at San Fransisco State University and play baseball.
Rico stated,“I can always play music, but I need to play ball at this time in my life and pursue a college degree.”
After his season at SFSU, Ricky was drafted by the Cleveland Indians and went on to play for that team, the Chicago Cubs, and the San Diego Padres organizations. After moving to Chicago and deciding not to accept the San Diego Padres offer in spring training, Ricky finished college at UIC and returned to playing music. After several years with a number of established bands, Ricky felt the time had come to find the best combination of musicians to resurrect Rico! It all came together in 1993.
